Improvements / DIY
I am beginning to find it difficult to manage in my property. What sort of assistance can the Association give me?
If you feel that you may benefit from alterations to your property such as the provision of ramps, stair lifts, level access showers etc you should request that your Doctor refer you to an Occupational Therapist (OT). The OT should arrange to visit you and will agree with you what is required and then advise the Association of their recommendations. Once the recommendations have been received the Associations Property Surveyor may need to meet you and the OT to discuss and agree the works that are being requested.
Please note that the Association receives a large number of requests for adaptations each year and we prioritise the work in date order of the request being received unless a particularly urgent case has been identified that needs to be undertaken ahead of others who have been waiting longer.
Can I carry out improvements/DIY to my property?
Residents may make improvements to their home provided they first obtain written consent of the Association. Please click here to download the alteration request form.
Please note that any person considering undertaking electrical work in the home or garden, including work that might be considered a “DIY job”, should ensure that they have complied with the requirements of the Building Regulations and, if necessary, contacted their local authority’s Building Control Department.
When will the outside of my house be painted?
All properties are painted externally once every 4 to 5 years, depending on the rate of deterioration.
When will the Association replace my windows, kitchen or heating?
The Association operates a planned maintenance programme based on component life spans. For further information please contact the Asset Management department on 01603 731699.
